We show how there is existing energy technology in place in the NWT – hybrid micro-grids that use a combination of solar, wind, and batteries with backup diesel – that can greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions if more widely applied. This approach not only makes financial sense, much more than big energy projects like large hydro development, but it also reduces the cost of living of Northerners while reducing their energy security. The opportunities are massive.
